Sandwich Casserolette

I'm still on the 1958 Good Housekeeping Casseroles pamphlet cookbook. So many weird recipes in here!
The black and white photo is of Sandwich Casserolette:
4 eggs
1 qt. milk (I'm not kidding)
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. dry mustard
9 white-bread slices
1 pkg. brown-and-serve sausages; or 12 slices bologna
2 tomatoes, sliced
1 cup grated process Cheddar cheese (why processed?)
Start heating oven to 325 F. Beat eggs slightly; mix in milk, salt, mustard. Make 3 2-decker sandwiches, using sausages for first layer, tomato slices, sprinkled with grated cheese, for second layer. Halve each sandwich diagonally. Arrange in baking dish, with cut sides down. Pour milk mixture over all. Bake 1 1/2 hour, or until mixture is set in center. Serve with relishes and tall glasses of iced tea. Makes 6 servings.
Why the tall glasses of iced tea? Also, isn't this really sandwiches made with french toast? Seems like a lot of work - and a ton of milk, for one rather odd casserole.
I've been trying to find a new romance author to read. I've read all the big and popular ones, in all genres from paranormal to Regency to FBI romantic suspense. Does anyone have someone new they enjoy?
Joanna Campbell Slan is a wonderful author and scrapbooking expert I met at Love is Murder this year. She is a marketing dynamo and any author could learn a lot from her. She kindly asked me to guest blog on her site today about the Missing anthology. Check it out!

Oh Amy, I just finished reading The House on Tradd Street by Karen White. Set in Charleston, a very contemporary woman inherits a beautiful mansions [good bones] that desperately needs renovation. There's a little romance, a little mystery and best of all, a sequel coming out in November 2009. Karen White has written eight other titles, but I've never read any of hers before--I think you might like this one. Pam
