Mock Pumpkin Pie
I've heard of Mock Apple Pie, but this recipe from a 1985 Church cookbook, is the first Mock Pumpkin Pie I've seen:
Pumpkin Pie
Duncan Hines Deluxe 2 spice cake mix (I'm not sure what the 2 is - perhaps the brand name from that time.)
1/4 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. plus 1 tbsp. oil (wow)
Stir until well blended. Bake in 9x13x2 pan at 350 degrees for 20 minutes, or until crust is light brown on edge. Prepare can of pumpkin pie filling as directed and pour over cake. Bake 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until solid. Chill overnight and top with Cool Whip and decorate with pecans.
Prepare can of pumpkin pie filling? Hmm...

Wait: If it still includes a can of pumpkin pie filling, how is it mock pumpkin? I mean, maybe it's not really pie, but it's still pumpkin . . . something. At least mock apple pie doesn't actually involve apples.
Normally I think these things sound yummy. This sounds greasy and kind of gross.
