Goblin Franks (or Hot Dog Tarts)

This 1964 cookbook has tons of both delightful and weird ideas for children's parties. Since I am working on my new Fall Flavors show right now, I went to the Halloween Party. This Goblin Franks is scary on many levels...

Goblin Franks
1 1/2 cups Gold Medal Flour
1/2 cup corn meal
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
1/4 tsp. paprika
1/8 tsp. cayenne
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 to 2/3 cup milk
8 wieners
Heat oven to 450F.  In a bowl, stir flour, corn meal, baking powder, and seasonings together.  Cut in shortening.  Stir in milk just to make a soft dough.  Divide dough into two parts.  Roll each into a rectangle, about 12x6".  Cut each rectangle into 4 parts.  Place wieners lengthwise on dough, moisten edges of dough, roll up, and seal edges with a fork.  Place on baking sheet; sprinkle with paprika.  Bake 15 - 20 min., or until lightly browned.  Serve as a finger food with a dip of catsup or chili sauce.
(When using self-rising flour, omit baking powder and salt.)
So this is like a hot dog tart?

I really enjoyed myself at the Skokie Public Library with my Pie Party show on Wednesday night. That was a really fun crowd - funny interesting comments. A lovely reporter did an article on it:

What a lovely book!

I actually just bought my first vintage cook book! A rare Norwegian book from 1946 - Martha Ellingsen "Amerikansk mat" (American food) - and this is all your "fault"! Haha. In a good way ;)

I found your blog through Sarsapillas blog - and I am so delighted to "meet" you!

Have a wonderful weekend!
Greetings from Norway

Hi Amy,
This is an interesting blog. I also love old cookbooks. I wrote about one of them in this post on my blog.
