Grandma Curtin's Fudge and a Substitution

During my Vintage Holidays talks, I sent audience members home with copies of some favorite holiday treat recipes, including my Grandma's Fudge. Now she barely wrote stuff down, and had minimal directions, so the folks at the talks and I guessed about what she meant. After my last talk, I got a lovely note from a gentleman who likes butterscotch more than chocolate. See his note below on a substitution for this recipe. I love this kind of input!

Grandma Curtin’s Chocolate Fudge
5 cups sugar
¼ lb. butter
1 large can pet Condensed milk
3 pkg. choc chips Nestles 6 oz.
1 jar marshmallow Fluff
about 1 cup walnuts, chopped
Combine sugar, butter & milk. Bring to boil, let boil for 9 – 10 minutes low. Pour this mixture over choc. chips & fluff. Beat until smooth. Add nuts, pour into greased pan and refrigerate. Cut in about 1 hour.

From Jim:
I made two of the "Grandma Curtin's Chocolate Fudge" recipe, substituting butterscotch chips for the chocolate chips and chopped peanuts for the chopped walnuts for one, and caramel chips and chopped cashews for the other.

Jim also mentioned that he tested these out on his coworkers - lucky folks - and they liked the butterscotch and peanuts combo best on this recipe.

Thanks, Jim!
