The highlight of the weekend was going antiquing with my lovely husband in Volo, IL, where I picked up this treasure and a couple others. The low point was throwing my back out yesterday. I've had back surgery, so the good news is that when this happens now it's a pretty fast recovery. I wouldn't say I'm up for Olympic Gold today, but at least I can sit at the computer for 15 minutes at a time.
This is a Jello cookbook, no year that I could find, but has to be 1970's. Look at those colors on the front and back covers!
Here's an intriguing recipe:
Bread-and-Butter Pudding (Yep, with Jello!)
Bread-and-Butter Pudding (Yep, with Jello!)
'It needs no baking because it's made with prepared pudding.' (oh boy)
4 slices buttered bread, quartered
1/2 cup sugar
1 package (5 oz.) Jello Vanilla Pudding and Pie Filling
1 4 cups milk
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
Place buttered bread quarters in a baking dish. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup of the sugar. Combine remaining sugar, Jello Pudding, milk, and raisins in a saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture comes to a full boil. Pour over bread slices. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Serves 6 - 8.
Bread pudding is a favorite of my Mother's, but I just don't know about this version. Seems a bit odd.
I at least read a bunch of teen mysteries over the weekend - yes, it's Crimespree deadline time again. More on those soon...
