Here are pages 2 & 3 of the Little Black Book of handwritten recipes, found in a plaid metal Ohio Art recipe box also filled with handwritten gems, from which I've been blogging all week. These are abbreviated instructions to be sure, but perhaps you can make something from these:
Pie Crust
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 " Baking Powder
2/3 cup lard
Just enough water to dough sticks together.
Baking Powder Biscuits
2 cups flour
2 teas. B.P.
1 teas. salt
1 tablespoon Crisco
1/2 scant teas. soda
1 cup sour milk
Mix flour & Crisco + add just enough milk to make a soft dough.
Brown bake
1 cup sugar
1 cup sour milk
1/2 cup butter
3 eggs
3 tablespoons cocoa
1 teaspoon soda
2 cups flour
2 teaspoon Baking Powder
Vanilla
Bake in a loaf.
Cocoanut Drop Cookies
1 lb. cocoanut
1 lb. can Borden's condensed milk (Eagle Brand)
A pinch of salt. Soak cocoanut in milk.
And that's it for instructions. Now I love a good mystery, but I encounter enough mysteries with my cooking that I like a little more help in that arena. Anyone make anything like those coconut cookies?
